The James Branch Cabell Library provides a broad array of library services on the Monroe Park Campus. Departments include Circulation and Information, Outreach and Distance Education, Media and Reserves, Research and Instructional Services, and Special Collections and Archives. Other departmental services cover collection management, preservation and resource delivery services (interlibrary loan).
Special Collections and Archives contains nearly 40,000 volumes in special subject areas, including Virginia and Richmond history and literature, popular culture and graphic arts, comic arts, artist books, and much more. The department also houses the official records and archives of VCU and its predecessor institutions (Richmond Professional Institute).
The Technology Services helpIT Center, which includes the fixIT and getIT programs, is located in the basement of Cabell Library in room B-30. The helpIT staff provide quick, courteous and comprehensive computing support to faculty, staff and students, including support for VCU websites and accounts, test scanning and AV equipment loans. fixIT, the repair arm of helpIT, provides full-service computer repair and specializes in warranty repair of Lenovo, Apple, Dell and HP computers. getIT provides assisted purchasing of new discounted laptops for personal use.
A full-service Starbucks is located on the main level.
